Used solar panels light up Northern Uganda

Turning the Sun into Hope: Our NGO’s Second Life Program brings light to Northern Uganda through Solar Panel Recycling

“We light up Northern Uganda” is not just a statement, but a mission. Through our newly established official NGO, “Power a Better World,” we are on a mission to bring vital electricity to the region. During our “Extreme Intercropping” project in Uganda, we gained firsthand insight into the challenges faced by families in this area.

When night falls in Uganda, it is pitch black and wild animals and people with evil intentions threaten these families. For this reason, light is an important safety measure. And we knew that with a simple solution, we would be able to change lives and give these families a more safe place to live. Because with a solar panel, a battery and a charge controller, we can light up their homes – and that is exactly what we have done.

Safety in Light

Ever since we installed the first solar panel on a house, families have been experiencing improved safety. They could now venture outside after dark without worrying about wild animals and other threats. Furthermore, the older charge controllers we provided feature a USB input, allowing families to charge their phones, which serves as a crucial lifeline in case of emergencies. A solar panel, a battery and a charge controller – that is all it takes.

As we continue to develop and improve our products, we can recycle our older kits to generate vital electricity for these families. To clarify, before Christmas, we have already supplied electricity to 200 houses and lit up the towns of Lalem and Oruka. All it takes is a solar panel, a battery, and a charge controller.

A Life After Dark

By installing a single solar panel, battery and charge controller, people can now live after 7pm and children can study after dark. This small contribution has already resulted in many of the community’s children and teenagers achieving excellent results in their exams.

But not all children have an opportunity to go to school. Many are prevented from getting an education due to their poor life circumstances. Even those who do attend school often have to walk 12 kilometers barefoot.

We believe that every child has the right to education and should have the opportunity to attend school. Therefore, we provide financial support to families with children who cannot afford to send their children to school. For just €100 a year, we can facilitate a child’s access to education and provide them with the essentials: food, textbooks, uniforms and shoes.

This modest amount of money has a significant impact and can make a huge difference to the lives of these young people.

Your contribution, no matter the size, is a testament to the enduring power of collective action. By joining together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact and bring hope to a lost generation.
